Around 90% of the world’s trade is transported by ships plying various international and regional trade routes. Situated at the confluence of major trade routes, Singapore is one of the busiest ports in the world. It is estimated that there are about 1000 vessels in the port at any one time. 

An important part of the global transformation towards safer and more efficient maritime operations involves the advancement of smart and autonomous maritime systems. In this regard, TCOMS hosts the Centre of Excellence for Autonomous and Remotely Operated Vessels (CEAOPS), which serves as the national focal point to advance research and technological innovation in maritime autonomous surface ships.
